Sudbury innovation centre gets virtual reality training nod – Northern Ontario Business

Sudbury-based training and innovation centre NORCAT has received international accolades for its virtual reality (VR) training.

NORCAT received the Education and Training of the Year Award, for demonstrating “practical and innovative uses of VR in education and training,” during the fifth International VR Awards.

NORCAT earned its award for its work on Vale VR, a series of virtual reality modules designed to train Sudbury’s Vale workers in on-site operations that aim to improve safety, efficiency and productivity.

The organization and the nickel miner announced their partnership in March 2020 during the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada conference.

The International VR Awards are hosted by the Academy of International Extended Reality, a non-profit organization, with offices in San Francisco, U.S., and London, ENG., which is considered the international trade body for immersive technology industries.

Companies and individuals from around the world were recognized in nine categories.
